Storing the ballast

The ballast collected can be stored in a hopper unit which is integrated in the machine. That way the ballast can be transported in longitudinal direction of the track to wherever it is required along the track.. The reclaimed ballast is a positive side effect of the profiling work. This process takes place in the course of routine maintenance work without the need for a separate working pass.

The cost-efficiency of a ballast profiling machine equipped with hopper unit results from the advantage that sufficient ballast can be pre-deposited for tamping work so that the necessary lifting values can be achieved.

In the case of ballast management using the BDS ballast distribution system we went one step further. The storage capacity can be increased by adding material conveyor and hopper units (MFS series).
