The stored ballast is used to fill the tamping zones via discharging openings with hydraulic opening flaps. The positioning of the chutes immediately in front of the centre plough ensures a technologically correct sequence of operation. In the case of the BDS ballast management system, slewing distributor conveyor belts ensure exact placement of ballast in the track.
