Ploughing the side path

In some track areas the side path needs to be included when profiling takes place. That way surplus heaps of ballast are collected and placed in the ballast bed area.

An additional benefit is the removal of vegetation from the surface layer. For ploughing and regulating the side path, shoulder ploughs can be equipped with optional equipment such as moveable plate tips. The telescope-like design of the shoulder ploughs allows for additional adjustments, making it easier to work around the side path in superelevation
(i.e. at the outer side of the curve).
