The choice of work technology is determined by the permanent way parts which are replaced:

Track renewal

The entire track panel is replaced. As a rule, this also entails ballast cleaning of the track section.

Track laying

A new track panel is laid on a prepared formation with the first layer of ballast.

Track removal

An existing track panel including the ballast bed is completely removed.

Sleeper exchange

Old sleepers are replaced with new ones, without replacing the rails.

Rail exchange

Old rails are replaced with new ones, without replacing the sleepers.

All of these material-intensive and difficult activities – previously hard manual labour – are now carried out by powerful machine systems.
