Preparatory work for track laying

A cleanly compacted formation is produced as the foundation for the new sleepers. The new sleepers are laid on the first layer of ballast.

When using the Plasser ConstructionLiner or the Plasser AssemblyLiner to lay new lines, it is sufficient to apply a ballast strip (with or without recess, approx. 0.5 t/m) to the newly constructed substructure formation with a suitable ballast-strip laying device, on which the new track laying machine lays the track. The remaining superstructure ballast (approx. 3.5 t/m track) is then laid using track-bound machinery.

Variants for insertion of the base ballast(sleeper bed)

  • Lorry with various ballast distribution devices (Note: according to regulations in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, wheeled vehicles are not allowed to drive on the formation).
  • Sleeper bed with excavator
  • Road-rail material conveyor and hopper unit with distribution auger
  • Integrated with grading blade and screw conveyor in laying or renewal machine

An optimized substructure – an essential prerequisite for a stable superstructure

A formation with insufficient load carrying capacity and inadequate drainage conditions jeopardizes the stability of the superstructure and thus the track geometry to the highest degree. The result is time-consuming, costly track maintenance and a much shorter service life of the entire superstructure material. Therefore, a poor subsoil produces major additional costs.
