The supply of new ballast was not the only feature that was integrated into the systems when the RM 900 series was developed. Plasser & Theurer also developed complete, complex cleaning systems. Apart from cleaning the track, they organise the layer by layer build-up of the ballast bed with cleaned and new ballast and stabilise each individual layer of ballast (resulting in homogenisation).
Outputs of 1,000 m³/h and more as well as maximum performance of the machines in very short possessions (e.g. three hours per night in France) make the machines of this series reach maximum efficiency.
